PRE-PREGNANCY ASSESMENT

Patients generally visit their gynecologists on detection of pregnancy be it after getting a positive urine pregnancy test or after the first sonography but it is essential to visit us a bit before that is when you are planning a pregnancy. That doesn’t mean you start worrying before getting pregnant, we can help you out through a series of disorders which may affect you during pregnancy by detecting then earlier and making your journey of pregnancy safe and joyful.

1) Planning of conception and giving fertility related advises.

2) Pre-pregnancy screening

  • Screening of infections like HIV, Hepatitis B, C and E and Herpes.
  • Immunization regarding various infections which may affect you or your baby in pregnancy like Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken pox.
  • Hemoglobin related disorders like Thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
  • Genetic and metabolic disorders.
  • Screening of certain systemic disorders like hypertension, diabetes and epilepsy.

3) Nutrition and exercises

Planning a diet rich is complex carbohydrates, proteins, calcium, iron and folic acid. Moderate exercise with balanced diet is the key role.

4) Vitamins and minerals

Foods rich in folic acid and iodine should be incorporated.

5) Medications

There are certain medications used or the patient may be taking might not be safe in pregnancy as it affects development of the organ systems and hence may have to be modified to its substitute.

6) Addictions

Addictions like smoking and drinking should be abandoned as it not only affects the pregnancy but also the capacity to conceive.
