What Is Infertility

WHAT IS INFERTILITY

If you and your partner are struggling to have a baby, you’re not alone. About 4% to 16% percent of couples in India are infertile. Infertility is defined as a disorder of the reproductive system wherein there is an inability to achieve pregnancy despite having frequent, unprotected sex for at least a year for most couples, though it is important for us to consider the age of partners as we need to provide some sort of help for the couples above the age of 35 years.
It is generally said that 84% of couples conceive after one year of regular unprotected intercourse and 92% of them in two years of the same.
Infertility may result from an issue with either you or your partner, or a combination of factors that interfere with pregnancy. Fortunately, there are many safe and effective therapies that significantly improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Primary infertility:
When a woman is unable to ever bear a child, either due to the inability to become pregnant or the inability to carry a pregnancy to birth she would be classified as having primary infertility.
Secondary infertility:
When a woman is unable to bear a child, either due to the inability to become pregnant or the inability to carry a pregnancy to birth following either a previous pregnancy or miscarriage, she would be classified as having secondary infertility.

Infertility can affect one or both partners.

In about one-third of cases, there is an issue with the male.

In about one-third of cases, there is an issue with the female.

In the remaining cases, there are issues with both the male and female, or no cause can be identified.
